Caulk the Wagons!

We got to go on boats today!! No seriously, all of you who thought this was just gonna be a road trip were totally mistaken. On our way from Mara's to Christie's folks we went on not one, not two, but THREE boats. I joked to Christie that for the price of the ferries I would have rather caulked my car and tried to float it across the water, but I'm pretty sure that might not have been the best of ideas... The nice part about all of the ferry riding was it broke up the trip nicely, so what was actually about five hours of travel felt more like two.

Before we bolted from New York however we decided to mark the most eastern part of our journey with a quick visit to the Atlantic Ocean. It may be awhile before we see her again and it seemed proper to mark the occasional, especially since Christie missed the little trip we took to Rockaway beach.

Overall today was smooth sailing. Pun, sadly, intended. At least it was up until the point that Christie decided she new a "shortcut" that would shave something like 30 minutes from our trip. Christie has the worst sense of direction of just about any human being on the planet, so my spider-sense should have been tingling. Sadly I must not have been paying attention and what was supposed to save us time ended up seeing us turn around three times until we got on the right road and brought us into New Milford about 20 minutes later than if we'd just stayed on the damn highway. It seems as if I may be doing the majority of our driving on the trip... which means it's gonna be a long journey.

The day only got better however when the Spillane family graciously treated us to a Hibachi dinner. A feast for both our eyes and stomachs blocked most recent memories of we weary travelers settled in for a nice quiet evening.

Select pictures from the day can be perused at this location. Smithy out.
