Hot Dogs and Angry Moon Faces...

It's Monday, June 8, 2009
Yesterday Wilma drove us out for a staple lunch of the greater Buffalo area, Conner's ‎Hot Dogs.

It sits across the street from Mickey Rats, a "gin mill" (Wilma's term) that ‎blasts it's summer rock music across the lake to her private beach. Conner's is a ‎classic little hot dog joint with hight schoolers manning the cash register and doling out ‎paper cartons of fries. Quite tasty! ‎

She also showed us the local public beach. It was cute, with plenty of playgrounds and ‎picnic tables. There is a tiny pedestrian tunnel that takes you under the road, the walls ‎of which are covered in corny paintings of cartoon characters and comic strips. Our ‎favorite was this moon who looked really angry that a star was hanging from his ‎forehead. I don't get it. ‎

Later, while I was dealing with my poison ivy face

Molly gave Charley a much-needed trim. ‎

Then we took him down to the beach and gave him a little H2O exposure therapy. ‎There is a public beach next to Wilma's private one. The two are separated by a creek ‎that is too deep to wade across right where they meet. Molly and I waded out into the ‎lake and found a good spot for us to cross, but this left Charley on the public beach. ‎

After a lot of whining and barking at us for leaving him behind, he decided that the best ‎thing to do was to just jump in a swim to us! ‎

This is a first! We've always had to just chuck him in the water, so to see him do it on his ‎own was pretty exciting! Of course we made him do it 4 more times before he was ‎shaking so bad we had to take him home. We'll have a water dog if it kills us and Molly's looking pretty pleased with the progess so far!

So far it's been a quiet Monday. Wilma is out getting more stain for the porch that we ‎have to finish painting this afternoon. And tonight Pern and Christie will be rolling into ‎town with their menagerie. Should be fun to see the puppies reunite on the beach! ‎

Sorry for being out of touch, we've been without internet lately. We'll be checking in ‎more regularly pretty soon though. Ta ta for now. -Jared
