Ithaca, My Ithaca...

After Matt and I sorted out all the drama with the camper on Saturday, we packed up the U-Haul and then decided to take the night off instead of driving to Ithaca, NY like we had originally planned. Dom and Nadine (Matt’s dad and his girl friend), and Matt and I went out to dinner and then we saw Up in 3D. All of you dear readers must see it, but be forewarned, it’s heartbreaking. In the morning we left over an hour later than I wanted to and made our way up to Ithaca (finally). We stayed with my favorite sister Kelly and her boyfriend who is a brother to me, CJ. Ithaca is one of my favorite places in the world, and after the stress of the camper not working out I was relieved to stop in such a familiar and comforting place. We went to Taste of Thai, one of my favs, and then we made a Wegman’s run. I don’t know if any of you have ever tried to go grocery shipping in NYC, but the selection is abysmal unless you want to pay a lot and/or travel far. After a very bleak food shopping year, Wegman’s was like an oasis in a desert. The four of us picked out our favorite beers and went back to Kelly and CJ’s to watch Jurassic Park. Kelly Surprised us with my favorite kind of cup cakes (chocolate with vanilla frosting):

As we all chose letters to eat, we scrambled the remaining letters to spell other things. This was my favorite:

Here are some more pictures from our very fun and relaxing night:

Sophie made a face like she was dead:

The next morning we took the puppy for a walk to College Town Bagels on the Commons for breakfast and we ran into Billy! This was a wonderful surprise because I had thought Billy had already taken my spot in my old Brooklyn apartment, but there he was running towards us on State St. It was good to see you Billy!

Matt and I left later that day. Being in and leaving Ithaca is always bittersweet. Ithaca holds so many dear, intimate, memories –being there I get hit in the face with nostalgia. Not the hazy, romantic, bastardization of the word, but the literal painful return to the past. Ithaca once held so many amazing people, opportunities, experiences, and feelings for me, but since I’ve graduated, being back only reinforces that those things are no longer there for me. My time (at least for the present) in Ithaca has past. I’m however, very glad that we got to see it again before moving to Portland.
